Since 1991, the Malta
Triathlon Association has lobbied for the inclusion of
Triathlon in the GSSE. However, when at the 1999 Liechtenstein Games it was
announced that the 2003 Games had been awarded to Malta, the MTA efforts to include
Triathlon in the Games of the Small States of Europe became truly
focused and determined.

meantime, at the Sportivi Nazzjonali Contest, organized by the Maltese Sportswriters
